Do I need check numbers for deposits

I started a business last fall a personal chef. I was trying to keep my head above water, and did not write down the check numbers the clients payed me with before depositing them into my business checking account. I have my bank statements. Is that enough, or do I have to humble myself and ask my clients for them? Thanks

I guess it is ok; I feel the best to use to identify the check is the names of the persons / biz names who are giving you the money so if needed you could research your deposits easier. You can also use the check number - but when trying to find one paticular item deposited - your more likely to remember who gave you the item rather than the check number of the item they gave you. As long as all checks are endorsed by the payee. Today with the high rate of fraud many banks are pushing this issue more.
