Form 8863

I completed my taxes online and misread the question on being convicted of a felony when I was completing form 8863 for the education credits. I was never convicted of a felony. I received the lifetime learning credit, but was wondering if I need to amend my taxes and put on form 8863 that I was not convicted of a feloney.

I don’t think so as long as you were not convicted of a felony; you should file an amended tax return if you need to correct any piece of information that will alter your tax calculations. You can use an amended return to make corrections to your filing status, dependents, income, deductions, or tax credits. For example, if you need to report additional income from a W-2 that arrived after you filed your original return, you'll need to file an amendment. Similarly, if you need to remove dependents because you were not eligible to claim them, you should file an amendment. I guess if you want, you can send a copy of the form 8633 and stmt Please contact the IRS for more info in detail.
