Transfer 401k to IRA for Tax Crediting Purposes?

I am currently unemployed and receiving benefits as my company downsized in mid July 2012.
My question is:
Would I benefit from transferring my 401k to and IRA for tax crediting purposes if my single adjusted gross income was less than $27,750?
