Paid in 2012, earned in 2011. Which return?

I am a realtor that received a referral fee for a closing in 2011. They issued and I received the check Jan 11 2012. They sent me a 1099 for the income for 2011. I questioned whether this is correct and should it be voided and send the 1099 for 2012.

ALSO, they mistakenly sent me two different 1099's. I certainly don't want to pay on that income twice but I haven't had response from them about either issue.

Shall I just pay on what I think is correct? I would certainly rather our information match up.
