Estate Income

Mom passed away in Oct '09. Her estate received a retirement annunity payment of $63,000 in Dec '09. I assume that payment is subject to tax, but when do I file for it? A regular 1040 for '09 or when the estate close in '10. Her estate has a value of $300,000 including her home.
Thanks
