Minimal Income - Still need to file?

I've heard if you don't earn a lot that there is no need to file.

I worked part time and only earned $10,842.98. No taxes were held.

Husband is filing taxes from his earnings which is much more than mine. Plan on filing jointly. Our ages are 43 and 46.

Do I still need to file when all I earned was $10,842.98?

Thank you!
