Claiming childern

I have a child in my home that is not a blood relative, but whom I take care of as my own. I do have Power Of Attorney For A Child. He belongs to a ex-boyfriend. He has lived in my home all year, and I take care of him in every aspect of life, with no help financially from anybody. Nobody else will be claiming him except me. The child is 6 years old. My question is, do I claim him as my son, grandchild, or what?
