Statement of Not having a Business

My previous CPA filed my taxes and submitted a schedule C for a business loss. Now that I am trying to buy a house the mortgage company needs a letter stating that I do not have the business anymore even though I have assured them that I do not have the business. Since she is reluctant to write the letter. Can I go to another CPA and ask for the letter stating I do not have a business?

I guess you basically need to follow what the mortgage company wants yu to do to prove that yo have no longer the business. you do not need to go to another cpa however, you may submit them a copy of your Sch C of 1040( I mean the last copy of your Sch C before you closed your biz maybe as the last copy of your SCh C of 1040); in general, aslongas you're an EE, you can simply provide the lender with pay stubs. But if you're self-employed or an independent contractor, then, the best way to prove your income is with your Sch C of 1040; However since you no longer have the biz. you need to let them know that you have no biz/Sch C any longer. So in my opinion, you contact them and do whatever they want you to do to prove your situation. Or you may need to contact your city govt to prove that your biz is no longer registered with them
