Im filing for a friend and he has a 1099 misc for some carpentry work he did. The work was done in the state of NC. im filing the regular d400 and can't find where to add any 1099 misc income. I know this needs to be reported, but where do I put the info? Please help!!!

The 1099-Misc income gets reported on Form 1040 Page 1 on line 21, as income subject to Self-Employment income tax, assuming your friend has no expenses that are associated with this income.

If on the other hand there are some expenses that are associated with this income, you should report the income on Schedule C. This will allow you to reduce your Schedule C profit, and hence lower your tax liability. If this income is substantial, I strongly urge you to talk to a CPA or tax adviser to ensure that your friend deducts all the allowable deductions that he or she is entitled in 2008!
