Are Subchapter S Corporation subject to the California minimum franchise tax?

According to the California Franchise Tax Board, "all S corporations are subject to the minimum tax." The Minimum tax is the amount a corporation must pay by the first quarter of each accounting period whether the corporation is active, operates at a loss, or does not do business.

The current minimum tax is $800 for both a C or an S Corporation that is either based or operated in California.
