Family spread over two homes

I recently purchased a second home to have more room for my family. We file taxes jointly as a married couple. My wife and I live in one and my son and daughter live in the other. If I sell the home where my dependent kids are living, can I consider that part of my family's primary residence, and be allowed the exemption from capital gains?
