Student resident alien with a scholarship from a foreign source Hello!
I'm an international student and would be considered a resident alien since I think I pass the substantial presence test. I first entered the US on an F-1 visa January 2007 for my bachelors, graduated in December 2010 (that visa expired);however continued for my Master's and maintained my full-time status, then applied for a new F-1 visa in summer 2013 for my doctorate.
I have a scholarship from my government (non US source) that pays for my tuition and gives me a monthly allowance which is supposed to cover housing, food, bills etc, although they do not specify how that "allowance" should be spent. I simply get a check every month. So my question is, what would be excludable from income and what do I have to report? I have no other source of income.
This is what my scholarship says:
The scholarship covers a monthly salary, tuition fees for academic studies, health insurance, books, and clothing. These expenses are paid regularly via the (SOURCE).
Thanks! |
