#1;Basically, as you can see, UNLESS you are able to file your federal individual income tax return by the due date, you may be able to get an automatic 6-month extension of time to file. To do so, you must file Form 4868 by the due date for filing your calendar year return ,usually April 15, or fiscal year return(in 31/2 mos after the end of your FY). You also may file electronically . You do not have to give any reason for extension.UNLESS you owe tax, you do not need to pay tax on or before Apr 15 2014.
#2; An extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. Tax payments for the year 2013 are still due by April 15, 2014. Payments of tax made after April 15th are subject to penalties and interest aslongas they owe money to IRS
