Split Payment - Avoid 1099

I'm buying a small piece of property for $1,000.00.

The sellers (mother and daughter) want me to make out two checks for $500 each.

QUESTION: Do I have to send "them" a 1099 for the $1,000 purchase, OR because neither person received a payment of >$600, do I not have to?

Thanks, odd question, and I couldn't find the answer in searching the forums!

QUESTION: Do I have to send "them" a 1099 for the $1,000 purchase, ========>No; If during the calendar year you hired contractors in the course of running your trade / business, you may have to issue them a 1099-Misc. The IRS makes this requirement so that you remind folks you pay to include such payments on their tax returns. Additionally you would need to furnish the IRS with a copy of the 1099-Misc.The current rules are:
Payments to any one contractor of $600 or more during the tax year in the course of your trade or business. The contractor must be an individual or partnership; payments to corporations currently do not require a 1099, except for noted below. The $600 rule is for contract labor or services. For goods for resale it's $5K. For goods not for resale, no 1099-MISC is due under current law

OR because neither person received a payment of >$600, do I not have to?===>correct No 1099 is required here.
